A durable and invisible solution for preserving an exceptional heritage site
As part of the landscaping project at Villa Cavrois in Croix (managed by the Monuments of France), Nidagravel® cellular gravel stabilisation panels were installed to stabilise 2,500 m² of gravel surfaces.
The objective was to provide pathways that are fully accessible, permeable and visually respectful of the site’s architectural identity, while improving PRM accessibility.

Project Context and Challenges
Stabilising gravel pathways in a historic site
Villa Cavrois features extensive outdoor areas where gravel paths had to remain aesthetic, permeable, and perfectly accessible, including for visitors with reduced mobility.
Key challenges identified:
- avoiding gravel sinking and surface irregularities,
- ensuring comfortable circulation for all users,
- maintaining a natural and lightweight visual appearance,
- guaranteeing long-term durability under repeated use.
Objectives Defined by the Project Owner
The specifications required:
- efficient gravel stabilisation over large areas,
- a PRM-compliant solution,
- fast and non-intrusive installation,
- full permeability to naturally manage rainwater,
- a discreet material that preserves the site’s architectural value.
Solution Implemented with Nidaplast

1. Sub-base preparation
Excavation and compaction of a draining sub-base. Application of a levelling layer.
2. Laying the Nidagravel panels
Installation of gravel stabilisation sheets in crossed joints, without fixing or anchoring.
3. Filling and finishing
Fill the cells with non-calcareous gravel (6/8 or 8/10 mm). Compact to lock the gravel into the cells. Finish with 1–2 cm of gravel above the panels.
