Nidaplast 8DB — Cellular panels for producing curved parts

Nidaplast products are polypropylene honeycombs designed to serve as the core material for sandwich panels.

Large composite panel dimensions: 2500 × 1220 mm
Different thicknesses: 10 to 28 mm (other thicknesses available on request)
Cell size: 8 mm
Indicative weight for a 20 mm panel: 1.5 kg/m²

The honeycomb has a density of 65 kg/m³, providing good resistance to impact and compression.
The compression strength of Nidaplast 8DB is 1.2 MPa (120 tonnes/m²).

The polyester non-woven (45 g/m²) on the Nidaplast honeycomb cores provides an ideal surface for bonding or impregnation with thermosetting resins (polyester, epoxy…).
Thermo-welding this non-woven onto the cellular structure ensures perfect adhesion.

The plastic film (50 μm) placed beneath the non-woven seals the cells and limits resin or adhesive consumption.

The honeycomb is made of polypropylene, a durable and 100% recyclable material.
The honeycomb structure, composed of 95% void, uses little material while offering high mechanical performance.

Lamination and spray-up of the honeycomb

There are two main methods for processing Nidaplast in manual lamination : DIRECT LAMINATION (hand lay-up) and SIMULTANEOUS SPRAY-UP (cut fibres + thermosetting resin sprayed with a gun)
These processes are performed at room temperature and without pressure.
They are easy to implement and offer low tooling costs. They allow the production of very large, lightweight parts.
The polyester non-woven on Nidaplast® provides excellent adhesion for direct lamination with thermosetting resins such as polyester, epoxy, or phenolic resins.
The plastic film between the honeycomb cells and the non-woven prevents resin from penetrating into the cells.
Due to the variety of resin formulations and processing techniques, compatibility with Nidaplast must always be checked.
