Lightweight, stiff and acoustic composite solutions for wind turbine nacelles and equipment
In the wind energy industry, priority is given to lightweight construction, mechanical strength and acoustic performance of components. Manufacturers and OEMs require materials capable of withstanding significant mechanical loads while ensuring long-term durability in demanding environments.
Nidaplast® polypropylene honeycomb cores meet these requirements thanks to their unique combination of:
- Low weight to optimise structures and reduce energy consumption
- High stiffness provided by the hexagonal PP honeycomb structure
- Excellent acoustic behaviour (sound absorption & vibration damping)
- Outstanding resistance to moisture and chemical agents
- Fully rot-proof, even in severe industrial conditions
- Compatible with infusion and RTM processes
Possible Applications in the Wind Sector
Wind turbine nacelles
Lightweight and rigid interior panels
Technical support panels requiring high shear strength
Insulating internal partitions
Sandwich structures offering improved vibration isolation
The viscoelastic properties of polypropylene help absorb a large proportion of vibration energy, improving acoustic comfort inside the nacelle and reducing transmission of external noise.
Technical floors & covers
Structural flooring requiring high mechanical strength
Lightweight composite hoods and protective covers
Interior lining elements
Peripheral equipment
Technical cabinets
Maintenance covers and panels
Products used
Nidaplast 8
Nidaplast 8 is the standard product in the range. It is suitable for hand lay-up or spray-up lamination processes.
