Permeable solution for motorhome parking areas: gravel stabilisation with Nidagravel NG040 cellular grids
For a dedicated motorhome parking project, a gravel surface was equipped with Nidagravel NG040 cellular stabilisation panels. This system stabilises the gravel, prevents ruts and mud formation, and ensures optimal rainwater management — a durable alternative to traditional asphalt, suitable for municipalities, developers and engineering consultants.

Project Context and Challenges
A solution adapted to natural ground conditions and environmental constraints
Gravel stabilisation with cellular panels was selected for an area exposed to risks of marine submersion or flooding. Traditional materials could not ensure the stability and durability of the surface under these conditions.
The parking area had to provide comfortable access for motorhomes, while remaining lightweight, permeable and visually integrated into the landscape.
Objectives Defined by the Project Owner
The specifications required a stabilised gravel area that allows:
- circulation and parking of motorhomes without damaging the ground,
- permeable surfaces for natural rainwater infiltration,
- an aesthetic and functional finish suitable for leisure parking (walking comfort, placing outdoor furniture),
- a durable solution resistant to loads and varying moisture conditions.

1. Sub-base preparation
Excavation, draining layer, anti-contaminant geotextile. Compaction in successive layers.
2. Bedding layer
3–5 cm bedding layer, levelled and compacted.
May be composed of 2/5 or 3/7 gravel.
A geotextile can be placed between bedding and panels.
3. Panel installation and filling
Panels laid with a 5 cm dilation gap from edging or hard points (inspection chambers).
Expansion joint required every 10 m (or every 4 parking bays).
Panels installed progressively; cuts possible outside traffic zones.
Cells filled flush with gravel, then compacted.
