High-performance underground basin under a LIDL parking lot

Discover how Nidaplast EP modules enabled the creation of an efficient underground stormwater basin beneath a commercial parking lot for optimal water management.

Construction of an Underground Stormwater Retention Basin under a LIDL parking lot in Vieux-Condé (France)

Effective stormwater management is essential in urban areas to limit runoff and prevent flooding. In Vieux-Condé (59), the construction of a LIDL supermarket parking lot included the installation of an underground stormwater retention basin using Nidaplast EP modules. This technical solution offers a durable and efficient response to urban drainage challenges, while optimizing available surface areas.

Project overview: Managing stormwater beneath a commercial parking lot

Located in Vieux-Condé in northern France, this project involved the installation of a stormwater retention system beneath a LIDL parking lot. The objective was to effectively capture and temporarily store rainwater runoff to prevent overloading the municipal stormwater network during heavy rain events.

Thanks to their high void ratio (95%) and their load-bearing capacity, Nidaplast EP modules were selected to create a large underground storage volume without compromising the stability of the surface parking area.

A total of several hundred cubic meters of stormwater can now be managed directly beneath the parking lot, without reducing the number of available parking spaces.

Why choose Nidaplast EP modules for stormwater management?

Nidaplast EP modules offer many advantages for the construction of underground stormwater retention and infiltration basins:

  • High mechanical strength: Ideal for areas subject to heavy traffic, such as commercial parking lots.

  • Lightweight and modular: Easy to handle and install, even on confined construction sites.

  • High void ratio: Maximizes storage volume for rainwater without increasing structural load.

  • Durable and sustainable: Made from corrosion-resistant polypropylene, the modules guarantee a long service life.

  • Compliant with regulations: Meets the technical requirements for stormwater management in urban areas.

By using Nidaplast EP, the project ensured not only compliance with regulatory standards but also provided a sustainable, cost-effective solution for stormwater control.

A key solution for Urban Development Projects

Urban impermeabilization is an increasing challenge. Integrating underground stormwater basins into the design of commercial, residential, or public spaces has become essential for cities seeking to comply with environmental regulations and limit flood risks.

With over 40 years of expertise, Nidaplast supports engineering firms, public works contractors, and construction distributors with innovative and proven solutions.

The successful completion of the Vieux-Condé LIDL parking lot project demonstrates once again the efficiency and reliability of the Nidaplast EP range for sustainable urban drainage.
